PPP Removal Cost: Pearly Penile Papules Clinic vs At-Home Prices

A clinic will charge you somewhere between $800 and $3,000 to clear pearly penile papules, and another $150 to $300 for the first appointment before anyone touches anything. What moves the price is the method: electrosurgery is the cheapest, CO2 laser the dearest. Doing it yourself at home with the PPP-KIT™ costs $129.

What Each Method Costs
Prices are in US dollars and don't include the first appointment, which usually adds $150 to $300. What you pay changes from country to country, there's a breakdown by country further down.

The short version: set aside $950 to $3,300 to have it done at a clinic, appointment included, or $129 to do it yourself at home. Insurance won't pay for either.
What Clinics Charge
Dermatologists have been removing pearly penile papules for decades. Before we built our own kit, we went to see one in Montreal in 2018. He charged $200 just to look, work out how many sessions it would take, and then tell us what the whole thing would cost. Nearly every clinic works this way, you pay to find out the price.
Laser
CO2 laser is the one most men have heard of, and the priciest: usually $1,000 to $3,000 a session. The laser heats the water inside each papule until it burns away. You get numbing cream half an hour beforehand, and the treatment itself takes only a few minutes.

Electrosurgery
Electrosurgery, you'll also see it called hyfrecation2, uses a fine tip that makes a tiny spark when it touches each papule, burning it away. It costs $800 to $1,800 a session and works just as well as laser. Most dermatologists prefer it for this, because the spark only affects the surface and can't go too deep.
Freezing, cutting and scraping
Freezing costs $200 to $1,000 a session, but you'll usually need two or three of them, spaced about a month apart, and it can leave permanent pale patches on the skin. Cutting or scraping the papules off costs $800 to $2,000 and carries the highest scarring risk of the four. Neither gets recommended much for something you're only having done for how it looks.
Tyson glands and Fordyce spots
Tyson glands sit on either side of the frenulum, the fold of skin underneath. Doctors remove them the same way they remove papules, so the price is the same. They're almost always done in the same session, and most dermatologists won't charge you extra for them.
Fordyce spots on the shaft are a different story. They sit deeper in the skin, usually need a specialist, and carry a higher risk of scarring. Expect to pay the same or more, and don't use an at-home kit on them.

What It Costs Where You Live
Where you get treated changes the bill more than anything else. We looked up clinic prices across several countries, and the gap was far wider than we expected.
- United States: Electrosurgery runs $800 to $1,800 and CO2 laser $1,000 to $3,000, plus $150 to $350 for the first appointment. Medicare and private insurers both decline it, so the whole amount is yours.
- United Kingdom: the NHS won't pay for it. Private clinics charge around £9003.
- India: far cheaper, with some clinics quoting as little as 2,000 rupees4.
- Canada and Australia: prices land in much the same range as the US, and neither public nor private cover applies.

Why Insurance Won't Pay
Between 14% and 48% of men1 have pearly penile papules, more often if you're uncircumcised. They're part of how some men's bodies are simply built, not an illness. You can't catch them, you can't pass them on, and they'll never make you ill.
That's exactly why insurers say no. If a treatment isn't needed for medical reasons, it counts as cosmetic, and cosmetic work sits outside private insurance, Medicare and the NHS alike. There's no paperwork trick that gets around it, and appeals almost never succeed.
How to Save Money on PPP Removal
Six things worth doing before you book anything. The first two cost you nothing but a question at the right moment.
1. Pick electrosurgery over laser
The easiest money you will save. Prices vary by country and by clinic, but choosing electrodesiccation over laser typically cuts the bill by 30% or more. Results are the same and the scarring risk is arguably lower.
The difference is physical. A laser works without touching you, burning each papule from a distance. Electrodesiccation uses a hyfrecator, an electrically charged tip the dermatologist touches to each papule in turn. Same outcome, cheaper equipment, lower price. A lot of men book laser because it is the name they know, not because it suits this any better.
2. Ask whether the consultation fee comes off the treatment price
Almost every dermatologist charges to see you before they treat you. That first appointment runs $150 to $350 and it is separate from the procedure.
Plenty of clinics will deduct it from the treatment cost if you go ahead with them. Plenty will not. Nobody volunteers this. Ask when you book, and you either save a few hundred or you learn something useful about the clinic before handing over a deposit.
3. Get the number of sessions in writing
Clinics quote per session, and a session runs around . If your case needs two or three, the real cost doubles or triples, and you will not find that out until you are already committed.
An experienced dermatologist has done this hundreds of times and should be willing to say that one session will clear everything. If they hedge, or start talking about a likely second and third visit, that is worth taking seriously. Consider getting a second opinion elsewhere.
Ask about retouches too. Occasionally a papule gets missed, or is not destroyed all the way down. Tidying that up should be included rather than billed as a fresh session.
4. Check your cover, even though the answer is usually no
Insurers rarely pay for this. Papules carry no health risk, so removal is filed as cosmetic surgery and excluded.
One exception is worth knowing about in the UK. The NHS does not routinely fund removal, but your doctor can submit an Individual Funding Request on your behalf. Each one is decided case by case on review, so you have to ask your GP to apply rather than requesting it yourself. Approval is uncommon, but the application costs nothing. 5. Do not waste money on creams or home remedies
Papules are solid. Fibrous tissue and tiny blood vessels, rooted into the skin. Nothing you rub on top dissolves that.
Men have been putting toothpaste and various oils on the glans for years. None of it poses much of a health risk, and none of it produces a result either. There is no documentation and no review anywhere showing any of these work. We tried them ourselves before building our own kit. 6. Do it yourself at home
A PPP kit is the only home treatment with any verification behind it. It costs $129 and contains everything needed to do the electrodesiccation procedure yourself.
The device is an electrical ionizer. It works the same way a hyfrecator does, at a lower discharge set specifically for papules. One kit covers up to 10 sessions, so if you miss a few the first time, going again costs nothing extra. That is the opposite of the clinic model, where a second visit is a second bill.
It is not risk-free, since you are the one holding the device. But you can see the results before deciding: there are customer reviews with before and after pictures, which no cream or home remedy on the market can offer.
