Pearly penile papules are completely harmless. They are not contagious, not an infection, and not a sign that anything is wrong. Knowing that does not erase the self-consciousness and anxiety they cause during intimacy, but it does explain the pricing. Because the condition poses no medical threat, healthcare systems classify PPP removal as a cosmetic procedure. Insurance does not cover it, whether that is private insurance, the NHS, Medicare or a provincial plan in Canada. Which is why, for most men, knowing the best PPP removal option for the price matters.

There is no single price for PPP treatments. Three things influence the cost: the PPP removal method, how many sessions you end up needing, and whether the clinic credits the consultation fee against the treatment.

Initial consulting fee
Almost every dermatologist charges to see you before they treat you. That first appointment runs $150 to $300 and it sits separately from the procedure itself. You are paying for a diagnosis, a count of how many papules you have, and a quote.
In other words, at most clinics you pay to find out the price. Some will credit that fee against the treatment if you go ahead with them, which is worth asking about before you book.
Number of sessions required to remove PPP
This is the figure that changes your bill the most, and it is the one clinics are vaguest about. Prices are quoted per session. If your case needs two or three, the total doubles or triples, and you usually find that out after the first appointment rather than before.
How many you need depends on the method and on how many papules you have. Electrodesiccation and laser usually clear everything in one or two. Cryotherapy typically needs two or three, spaced about a month apart.
An experienced dermatologist has done this hundreds of times and should be willing to commit to a number. If they hedge, that is worth taking seriously.
PPP Removal Cost via Laser
Most men have heard of CO2 laser. It is also the most expensive PPP removal method on this list, usually $1,000 to $3,000 a session. The laser heats the water inside each papule until the tissue burns off. Numbing cream goes on half an hour before, and the treatment itself is over in minutes.
What you are paying for with laser is the machine, not a better outcome. A CO2 laser costs a clinic tens of thousands of dollars, and that shows up in your bill. The papules themselves do not respond any better to it than they do to electrodesiccation.

PPP Removal Cost via Electrodesiccation
You will also see this called hyfrecation2. It costs $800 to $1,800 a session. Bring a fine tip close to a papule and a tiny spark jumps across, drying the tissue out and destroying it.
It clears pearly penile papules as well as laser does, and most dermatologists prefer this method. It is easy to do, more cost efficient, and provides similar results to laser.

PPP Removal Cost via Freezing and Excision
Cryotherapy looks like the bargain at $200 to $1,000 a session. Then you find out you need two or three of them, roughly a month apart. Liquid nitrogen does the work, and cold is difficult to aim precisely on skin this delicate. Permanent pale patches are a real outcome.
Excision means cutting or scraping them off. $800 to $2,000, and the highest scarring risk of the four. Few dermatologists push either of these for something you are only doing for appearance.
Tyson glands and Fordyce spots
Tyson glands sit either side of the frenulum, underneath. Same removal method, same price. In practice they get cleared during the pearly penile papules removal session and most dermatologists will not add anything to the bill for them.
Fordyce spots on the shaft are another story. Deeper in the skin, often a specialist job, and a higher chance of scarring. Budget more for this. A good clinic will use radiosurgery for removing them, which breaks the core without touching the skin surface, and that reduces scarring risk. And do not put an at-home kit anywhere near them. PPP Removal Cost by Country
Where you get treated changes the bill more than anything else. We surveyed clinic prices across several countries for our research on PPP removal cost by region, and the gap was far wider than we expected.
- United States: $800 to $1,800 for electrodesiccation, $1,000 to $3,000 for CO2 laser, plus $150 to $350 to be seen. Medicare says no. Private insurers say no. The whole amount is yours.
- United Kingdom: the NHS will not pay for it. Private clinics charge around £9003.
- India: far cheaper, with some clinics quoting as little as 2,000 rupees4.
- Canada and Australia: prices land in much the same range as the US, which is $800 to $1,800. And neither public nor private insurance covers the treatment.

Does Insurance Cover PPP Removal?
Almost never, and the reason is worth understanding because it applies everywhere rather than to one insurer.
Between 14% and 48% of men1 have pearly penile papules, more often if uncircumcised. They are part of how some men's bodies are built, not an illness. You cannot catch them, you cannot pass them on, and they will never make you ill.
Which is precisely why insurers refuse. No medical need means cosmetic, and cosmetic sits outside private insurance, Medicare and the NHS alike. People ask us regularly whether there is a way to word the claim differently. There is not, and appeals almost never get anywhere.
One exception is worth knowing about in the UK. The NHS does not routinely fund removal, but your GP can submit an Individual Funding Request on your behalf, decided case by case. Approval is uncommon, but the application costs nothing. More on insurance and PPP removal →
Our Visit at a Dermatology Clinic
In 2018, before any of this existed, we booked an appointment with a dermatologist in Montreal. Here is how it went.
He charged $150 just to look at it, which is the initial consultation fee. That appointment covered a diagnosis, a count of the papules, and an estimate of how many sessions it would take. The quote came at the end of it, not before.
The price he gave was $1,000 for the laser procedure he said would take about ten minutes. Nothing about that was unusual or unfair on his part. It is simply what the clinic model costs: his time, his premises, the equipment, and the staff around it.
That gap between a ten-minute procedure and a four-figure bill is the reason this kit exists. Our mission since 2020 has been to keep it priced below what a dermatologist charges for the consultation alone.
How to Save Money on PPP Removal
With our experience, we have noted ways to save money on the PPP treatment cost. Here is a checklist to get the most affordable option and avoid extra costs.
1. Choose electrodesiccation over laser
The easiest money you will save. Same result, roughly 30% less, and arguably a lower scarring risk. A lot of men book laser because it is the name they know, not because it suits this any better.
2. Ask whether the consultation fee comes off the treatment price
Plenty of clinics will deduct it if you go ahead with them. Plenty will not. Nobody volunteers this. Ask when you book, and you either save a few hundred or you learn something useful about the clinic before handing over a deposit.
3. Get the number of sessions needed in writing
Clinics quote per session. If your case needs two or three sessions to remove your papules, the real cost doubles or triples, and you will not find that out until you are already committed.
Ask about retouches too. Occasionally a papule gets missed, or is not destroyed all the way down. Tidying that up should be included rather than billed as a fresh session.
4. Consider at-home alternatives
The PPP kit costs $129 and contains everything needed to do the electrodesiccation procedure yourself. The device is an electrical ionizer, working the same way a hyfrecator does, at a lower discharge set specifically to be safe for pearly penile papules.
One kit covers up to 10 sessions, so if you miss a few the first time, going again costs nothing extra. That is the opposite of the clinic model, where a second visit is a second bill.
5. Consider not treating them at all
The cheapest option is doing nothing, and it is a legitimate one. Pearly penile papules are harmless. They are not an infection, they will never make you ill, and no doctor will tell you they need removing. Between 14% and 48% of men have them and most of those men will never treat them.
They also tend to become less noticeable with age. If what is really bothering you is not knowing what they are, a consultation alone may settle it, and that costs a fraction of the treatment. Learn to talk about them with your partner. Once you both know they are harmless, there is nothing to worry about. Plenty of men find that being told the bumps are normal is enough, and they go no further.
Do PPP Home Remedies Work?
If you are looking to remove PPP with creams or oils, the answer is no, it will not work. And it is worth understanding why before you spend money on this.
Papules are solid. Fibrous tissue and tiny blood vessels, rooted into the skin. Nothing you rub on the surface dissolves that. Men have been putting toothpaste, tea tree oil and castor oil on the glans for years, and there is no documentation and no review anywhere showing any of it produces a result.
Removal creams are the same story with a price tag attached. They cost $20 to $50 and cannot reach the tissue they claim to remove. Acidic versions are worse than useless, since they risk chemical burns on skin that does not tolerate them.

Removing PPP at Home
