Pearly Penile Papules Treatments and Costs

Around 20% of men develop White bumps on the penis glans or skin during puberty. They can either be Pearly Penile Papules, Tyson Glands, or Fordyce Spots. These white bumps are naturally occurring and do not pose any health risks. However, their look can cause anxiety as they are falsely mistaken for an STD. They can be removed easily by a dermatologist or at home.

Dermatologist Treatments

Treatments for removing pearly penile papules have been offered by dermatologists for decades. The most common methods are removing them via Laser or Electrosurgery. Dermatologist treatments for pearly penile papules cost around $1000 per session. In most cases, only 1 session is required. You also need to pay a $200 initial consultation fee before the treatment. Ask your dermatologist if this fee is deductible from the treatment cost should you choose to proceed.

  • Laser treatment

Laser treatment by a dermatologist is the most popular treatment for Pearly Penile Papules. It consists of a laser that precisely targets the papules and vaporizes them into smoke. It only takes a few minutes to complete. A numbing cream is applied on the glans 30 minutes before the treatment; therefore, no pain is felt during the treatment. The cost of PPP removal via laser treatment is around $1250 per session.

  • Electrosurgery

Electrosurgery, also called Electrodesiccation or Hyfrecation, uses a Hyfrecator machine that produces a precise spark when in contact with the papule, hence vaporizing it. Removing pearly penile papules using an hyfrecator is as effective as a laser and arguably the most preferred method by Dermatologists. Price for removing pearly penile papules via electrosurgery is around $1000 per session. It is cheaper than laser treatment because the Hyfrecator machine cost is much lower than a laser machine.

  • Other treatments

Less common treatment for Pearly Penile Papules removal at similar costs are Excisional Surgery, Cryosurgery or Radiosurgery. However, these methods have more complication risks and are less effective than Laser or Hyfrecation.

In the UK, PPP removal is not covered by the National Health Service (NHS), the treatment cost around £900 1, which is equivalent to pricing in US. However, in India, the cost to remove them is as low as 2000 Rupees2 ($250 USD)!

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnique Montreal in 2015. One of my notable achievements during my studies was receiving acclaim for the 'Simplicity of the proposed solution' in a university project. I've always been a 'Do-It-Yourself' type of person, and solving my own pearly penile papules issue was no different. After months of dedicated experimentation with various home remedies for PPP, I developed a safe and effective solution that tackles the problem. The solution has been bundled into the "PPP KIT" and I am happy to share this life changing remedy since 2020!
